Online Books
... some Bahá'í Holy Books that have been put online. The background of each book is provided, but please understand that these Holy Writings are much too rich to properly summarize. Bahá'í scholars spend their whole lives studying these books, and they are difficult to simply browse over.
 
The Hidden Words
  Author: Bahá'u'lláh     (1858)
In the Hidden Words Bahá'u'lláh reviews the fundamental spiritual truths that lie at the heart of all the world's religions. Written in short poetic verses, the Hidden words were revealed in two languages: Arabic and Persian. Each Hidden Word is numbered, and all together they total 153 verses.
 
The Book of Certitude (The Kitáb-i-Íqán)
  Author: Bahá'u'lláh     (1863)
In this book Bahá'u'lláh speaks about other Prophets, portrays Their lives and Their sufferings, demonstrates the truth of Their Missions and describes the common feature of Their Faiths. In this way He brings to the understanding of the reader the truth of His own religion. Shoghi Effendi translated the book into English in 1929-1930. In its original language it is a model of Persian literature for its style and prose.
 
The Most Holy Book (The Kitáb-i-Aqdás)
  Author: Bahá'u'lláh     (1873)
The Kitáb-i-Aqdas is Arabic for "The Most Holy Book." It is the book of laws that Bahá'u'lláh has given to Bahá'ís to follow and has two main parts: the description of the laws themselves, and a question/answer section that gives greater detail on the laws. Shoghi Effendi summarized the contents of the book in the "Synopsis and Codification," which is also included in this link.
 
Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh
  Author: Bahá'u'lláh
This book is a collection of quotes that have been taken from Bahá'u'lláh's other writings. The quotes cover a wide variety of topics and were all selected by Shoghi Effendi because they capture the essence of Bahá'í teachings.
 
 
Some Answered Questions
  Author: 'Abdu'l-Bahá     (1908)
This Book is as excellent beginning point to learn more about the Bahá'í Faith. It was written from a series of interviews granted by 'Abdu'l-Bahá to a Ms. Laura Clifford Barney. Ms. Barney asked Him questions during multiple visits from 1902 to 1906. The book is organized around the topics He covered, and provides simple, clear answers to many different questions.
 
Paris Talks
  Author: 'Abdu'l-Bahá     (1911)
Another great source to begin learning about the Bahá'í Faith. This book is a collection of talks that were given by 'Abdu'l-Bahá when he visited Paris. He spoke in a variety of places: churches, clubhouses, banquets and private homes. In his talks he covers a wide variety of themes, all of which explain what Bahá'ís believe.
 
Selections from the Writings of 'Abdu'l-Bahá
  Author: 'Abdu'l-Bahá     (1909-16)
This book is a compilation of the writings and letters of 'Abdu'l-Bahá which He wrote to individuals, groups and committees. 'Abdu'l-Bahá deals with a vast range of subjects, all of which guide the Bahá'ís to live a spiritual life in a practical world.
 
The Secret of Divine Civilization
  Author: 'Abdu'l-Bahá     (1875)
This is a treatise which 'Abdu'l-Bahá addressed to the rulers and peoples of Persia, setting out the spiritual principles that must guide the shaping of society in the age of humanity's maturity.
 
The Advent of Divine Justice
  Author: Shoghi Effendi     (1936)
This book outlines the prerequisites for the development of a Bahá'í character and Bahá'í institutions. It is a compilation of letters that Shoghi Effendi wrote to the early Bahá'ís in North America.
 
The World Order of Bahá'u'lláh
  Author: Shoghi Effendi     (1929-36)
This book is a collection of letters that Shoghi Effendi wrote to the North American Bahá'í community between 1929 and 1936. The letters seek to educate western Bahá'ís on structuring their communities to help move towards Bahá'u'lláh's vision of a united world society.
